This past month has been so full! We saw so many of you at DD Day, visited our sister communities in Toronto and Syracuse, saw new and old friends at our Art from the Heart events at Cradle Beach, and ended the month in Albany working with Caring Majority to advocate for better home care. And we’re just getting started.
When I worked at L’Arche Chicago, Chris, a friend of mine and core member, had a habit of naming things he wanted aloud, big and small. I remember a time at the zoo he saw a big brown bear and said how much it looked like the kind of bear he’d like to pet. When we gently reminded him how dangerous bears can be, he replied quickly and plainly, as he often does at such reminders, “I can wish it.”
This season I’ve been saying “I can wish it” a lot. The challenges of this season are real- from a disastrous transition from CDPAP to PPL to ongoing threats and cuts to Medicaid and SNAP- but we continue to dream and grow and support each other in the midst of it all. And in setting our sights on the world we wish to see, with the help of friends who help us see what‘s possible today, we stay true to what is soft and human in all of us.
We have so many upcoming events we’d love to see you at! All events are free and open to all- we are building a community of adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities who transform what care looks like through mutual relationships, so that means you (yes you!) are welcome to join us and make a better world together. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
With care,
