About Our Events

So often, events are planned for either folks with disabilities or without. Around here, we know we’re not so different. All of our recurring events are designed for all of us, and we’re constantly working to make events more accessible and enjoyable for each person who shows up. That means you’ll find us meeting in wheelchair-accessible places, offering seating and water, sometimes running late, often staying flexible, and always laughing a lot. If you want to be part of a more human world together, our events are for you (and your neighbor, and your friend, and…)

Community Night

Every first Thursday of the month upstairs at Dash’s on Hertel, we gather to talk about community and care. They’re honest group conversations led by different community members meant to encourage and support us in doing community care and mutual aid across ability together. Join us to hear updates, dream with us, hear what we’re passionate about, and snack!

When: First Thursdays at 6pm

Where: Upstairs in the community room at Dash’s on Hertel

Song Circle

Every third Monday of the month we sing together at the Delaware Park Rose Garden under our big blue canopy. Join us at 7pm to learn songs taught call-and-response! If there are a lot of us, we like to layer parts and harmonize, and if it’s a smaller group, we learn more songs from each other. No experience needed to join- we come together to sing, not to perform. Come ready to leave with simple songs you’ll be humming in the shower, as a lullaby, and at the protest.

When: Third Mondays at 7pm

Where: The Rose Garden at Delaware Park, under our blue canopy

Creativity + Care

On third Thursdays we learn about local artists and create together. Come right at 5pm to join us for a free docent-led tour of the Burchfield Penney’s impressive and ever-changing gallery to see the works of neighbor artists all from Western New York. Join us after to make a creation of your own, with plenty of space for chatting with new friends and being inspired by each others’ works.

When: Third Thursdays at 5pm

Where: Burchfield Penney Useum Classroom

conTEXT

On the fourth Tuesday of the month, we come together from far and wide over Zoom for the most accessible book club around. Join our newsletter or email office@larchebuffalo.org for the link, and join at 5pm during your walk or drive, your dinner prep or scheduling time, and listen along as we read aloud a from a text about disability or community. We love to learn and expand our influences, but for so many of us independent reading between meetings isn’t going to happen- so we committed to reading together. After we finish the reading we’ll talk together about what we heard and how it connected to us.

When: Fourth Tuesdays at 5pm

Where: Over Zoom (email office@larchebuffalo.org for link)

Sick Policy

Our events are open to everyone, and that means often our group has members who are immunocompromised, or for whom the stakes are higher when they get sick. If you’re not feeling well, particularly if you have experienced fever, diarrhea, or vomiting in the last 24 hours, please stay home, and join us next time! We also highly encourage you to mask if you’re experiencing a respiratory infection so as not to pass it along.

Personal Care

If you’re new to our community and need support to engage, please bring a friend, family member, or personal assistant with you to help! We often have helpful participants or volunteers, but we find events go smoother and safer when we don’t guess what each other need. If you need assistance or want to check beforehand what accommodations we can provide, email us at office@larchebuffalo.org.
